Dancing Under Bridges

Through the collective I’ve met some amazing people in the greater San Diego area. I arrived here around 6 months unsure of my future, my relationship with God. I did however have a sincere desire to reconnect with a church that was built out of real relationships regardless of my faults, failures, and personality quarks.

We started gathering on the shores of La Jolla about a month ago. A teacher,a wife, some children, people of all different walks of life. Some who are homeless, some who are chronicly homeless, and others who are transitioning from one phase of life to another.

We share a meal, we share our stories of our week. We share our needs, our desires, and our progresses. Each is accepted and loved. Last week one of us shared a prayer that speaks volumes about what this group is about and what God is doing through some of our leaders.

“Thank you God for helping the Enyarts make us feel human again”.

It’s easy to not feel human when you are down and out. And the Enyarts have done an amazing job of helping folks with things that many just aren’t brave enough to do. Whether its a simple thing like a ride to an appointment, or a shower at their home, or a meal at the park. Simple acts of unselfish love for a small group of those who feel rejected by society, the church, and the world at large.

Finding a way to rejoin society, and more importantly build relationships along the way that nurture authenticity, and trust is a goal of so many on the margins. Wanting to have security, safety, and overcome poverty and the cycles of this system we are trapped in. The group that meets on the Shores at La Jolla is not about location, its about relationship and geniune kindness.

But greater than the acts of kindness its the geniune desire to build relationships with those who are at the margins of society, the church, and the community at large. And slowly the transformation is taking shape, and more importantly I think the Enyarts are learning to dance under bridges where no one else in La Jolla or San Diego was willing to go. Learning to love the unlovable, and share God’s geniune unconditional love with a people who God loves too.

Yes! This is what Jesus did… befriended the ones who were too broken to fit. My heart rejoiced as I read this; the Kingdom lives! I’m praying for you guys today, that your “love may increase more and more”.
